Ten Years Later: In Christ, Nothing Is Wasted

Jesus brings burdens into the light

The heaviest burdens we carry are rarely the ones the world can see. Often, the crushing weight comes from the battles we fight in isolation—the silent anxieties, the private griefs, and the hidden struggles we lock away out of fear or pride or desperation.

But on occasion, God leads us to a place of intimacy with Him that is away from the distraction and noise of everyday life — a season where He draws us closer to Himself privately as He did with Jesus. That kind of solitude is not the darkness Scripture warns about; it is a prayer closet. The difference is the intent of the heart: unhealthy isolation buries the struggle to protect it, while holy privacy carries it to the Father — until, in His timing, it is brought into the light as a testimony and witness to His glory and grace.

Jesus would go away to places where he could be alone for prayer. (Lk 5:16)

After He had dismissed them, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone. (Mat 14:23)

During the two long months after receiving the vision about our daughter, the internal war I waged as a protective father felt magnified because it was confined to the quiet, isolated spaces of my own personal time with God. This was an intimate time of growth with the Father and a refining time for my faith and trust.

But when we keep our struggles unspoken out of fear, shame, or pride, we inadvertently build a fortress for the enemy. That type of unhealthy isolation thrives in the dark corners of the human heart. It convinces us that we are alone in our struggle and that no one will understand. Scripture tells us God never intended for us to walk in the shadows of our silent battles.

Therefore confess your (sins, struggles, strongholds) to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail. (James 5:16)

Recently, the Lord spoke a profound truth into my heart regarding this human tension:

“Light exposes the true character of everything because light makes everything easy to see. His light destroys the power of the hidden and lifts the weight of the unspoken.”

This revelation is beautifully woven into the fabric of Ephesians 5:9-14. Scripture tells us that “the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth” (v. 9). The Apostle Paul goes on to write: “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light” (v. 13-14).

When God shines His light into our hidden struggles, it is never to embarrass or condemn us. God’s exposure is different from the world’s exposure. The world exposes to shame or control; God exposes to redeem. His light changes the very nature of what was hidden. By bringing the hidden thing into the open, the light destroys its power to control us. The heavy, suffocating weight of the unspoken is lifted by the light of His truth.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:” (2Cor 5:17-18)

This is precisely why a shared testimony is such a powerful weapon against darkness.

When we choose to share the unspoken, we are actively flipping the switch. By sharing our vulnerabilities, our failures, and the moments of weakness, we give those around us permission to do the same. Your raw, honest testimony becomes a light for someone else who is currently trapped in the darkness of their own silent struggle.

We do not overcome the enemy by pretending we have it all together. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. God’s grace is meant to be multiplied, and it multiplies the moment it is shared within the body of Christ.

What are you keeping hidden today? What is the unspoken burden that is draining your joy and stealing your sleep because you are trying to protect it in the dark?

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Step out of the shadows. Bring it to the Father, and bring it to your trusted circle. Stepping into the light will not break you—it will finally set you free.

“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
