Because She Believed - A Story of Faith and Hope
Kristen is Alive… Because She Believed
What did she believe?
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”” (John 11:25-27)
What did she do?
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” … For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”” (Rom 10:9-11,13)
God has given fathers a very special calling. We are to watch over our families. We are their shepherds and their protectors. We are to guide them and lead them through life. We are to plant and nurture the Good News of Jesus Christ in their hearts. We are to be a reflection of our God and Father.
On Easter Sunday 2016, God broke my heart when He answered my prayer. Julie, the girls, and I were preparing to watch The Passion, a musical regarding Jesus’ final days with His disciples before His death on the cross. We had decided to wait until we all could watch it together.
I am not a “musical” kind of guy, but when the opening scene of this musical began, I couldn’t stop crying. I was seeing the cup that Jesus was going to drink (that is, His death on the cross) from a father’s perspective. I had always viewed it from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus had the hard task of receiving the cup, but I believe it was even more difficult for His Father, God, to give Him the cup.
My prayer to God had been, “Please God, show me your heart!” His answer broke my heart and inspired my soul. He answered my prayer with a vision of my oldest daughter that challenged my faith. Over the next two months, God and I wrestled over His answer. In the end, I committed my daughter to His care and watched the testimony of her faith spread to thousands across the world.
